Best Memories playing for the Middlesex Magic

My best memories playing for the Middlesex Magic were the trips to Las Vegas and Orlando to compete against the best players in the country while hanging with teammates who have become lifelong friends. Our best victory in Orlando came against a team out of Chicago that featured Andre Igoudala. We beat them in pool play and they went on to become the National Champions a few days later.

How the Middlesex Magic helped me the most

The Middlesex Magic gave me the opportunity to receive recruiting exposure which led me to Bucknell University. Also, it showed me the high level of basketball at the National Level which motivated me to put more time into my game and become a successful college player.

Best Memories Playing for the Middlesex Magic

Some of the best memories I had playing for the Middlesex Magic came into different categories. The first one was on the court, where I was able to compete with my teammates are on a national level against some of the best competition in the country. While being coached by both Mike Crotty Sr. and Mike Crotty Jr. during my time with the magic. Competition has always been something I’ve loved but to compete along side teammates and coaches that are striving to win the game as much as I was but also having each other’s back’s and when things are going according to plan makes it that much better. Specifically I remember my first game at the nationals with the magic my sophomore year, where we came out on the losing end but it really kick started my understanding of how a team can take a loss, learn from it, correct the mistakes that were made, and for me understand that I needed to be the leader of the team for the games to come. Which eventually qualified us for next year’s nationals, a trip none of us will forget. Secondly I think of the memories off the floor and without argument those were the most important ones, as well as the most enjoyable ones. Specifically down at nationals whether it was in between two games or on a day where we only had one game, post game hanging around by the pool, playing cards, eating and genuinely just sharing laughs and stories that will be continued to be re-told for years to come because of the relationships/friendships that were made beyond the basketball court.

How the Middlesex Magic Helped me the most

For me, the Middlesex Magic helped the most in the development of friendships with Coach Crotty and teammates that I cherish to this day. This program distinguishes itself in so many ways, but the fact that we are a true family may be the biggest difference. The Magic was also one of the most instrumental factors in the unique journey I have taken to NBA. That journey would not have been possible if I wasn’t able to compete at the level I did with the Magic. It was playing for both coach Crotty Sr. and Jr. where I got the exposure to all of the college coaches, earn many scholarship offers, and ultimately attended the University of Notre Dame.

How the Middlesex Magic helped me the most

The Middlesex Magic program is the most consistent, well-run, and respected program around. It has been nearly 12 years since I last wore the jersey, but somehow every SINGLE day find myself telling a story from our road trips or running into someone who played for or against the Magic. The Magic are more than a team. The entire program is one huge family, and I met some of my best friends through playing hoops with the Middlesex Magic.

Best Memories of Playing with the Middlesex Magic

I first met Coach Crotty Sr. my junior year at Westford Academy after we had beaten Arlington High in overtime to advance to the D2 North Finals. He was there to watch Phil Barlow (a future teammate on the Magic) and approached me after the game. After a brief conversation he asked if I was interested in trying out for the Magic. I responded that he would have to ask my mother. I vividly remember his smile and puzzled look to my response. I pointed him in her direction and little did I know that that conversation would send my life on a path that would include great friendships, many victories, countless life lessons and admission to a college where I would meet my future wife, play with an amazing group of teammates/friends and compete in two D3 National Championship games.

How the Middlesex Magic Helped you the most

I learned two things very quickly at my first Magic practice. 1.) If you were open, you shot the ball and 2.) I was surrounded by a group of very talented guards who liked to play fast. It was a great group of guys, many of which I played against in college and am still friends with today. Coach Crotty demanded an “us against the world” mentality. It was a powerful and a very necessary strategy as we were often much smaller than the teams we were playing against. His gift was an ability to connect with players and give them what they needed to be successful at both basketball and life. For me this came down to one thing, confidence. I was a pass first post player who had the ability to score but was unselfish to a fault. He saw my ability and pushed me to be more assertive. “I don’t care if you miss ten shots in a row, what I care about is you passing up shots.” His aggressive, sometimes brash style was a breath of fresh air for me and I flourished. We had a fantastic spring, summer and fall season which led to significant interest from college coaches and eventually my acceptance to Williams. Fast forward 12 years and it is amazing to see what Coach Crotty Jr. has done with the program. The passion which he brings to coaching is unsurpassed. In a world of sneaker contracts and scandals the Middlesex Magic is a program which prides itself on helping young men and women learn life lessons, create amazing relationships and ultimately use basketball to help them attend top tier colleges. I look forward to continuing to be one of the Magic’s biggest fans and to follow the outstanding student athletes that it produces.

Best memories Playing with the Magic

My best memory was winning our pool at Division 1 Nationals as a junior, winning 7 straight games at Division 1 Nationals as a sophomore, and the constant fun and mentorship on and off the court I received from Michael Crotty Sr, Bill Boyle, and Michael Crotty Jr. The Crottys are amazing people and some of my best friends in the world and I was incredibly fortunate to learn from Coach Crotty Sr.

How the Middlesex Magic helped me the most

The Middlesex Magic gave me a basketball family and allowed me to learn so much about myself as a person and basketball player along with giving me a group of friends from different backgrounds who came together under the common goal of playing together to win basketball games and have fun.

Best Memory playing for Middlesex Magic

My best memory of playing with the Middlesex Magic was at the 2002 Nationals in Orlando, FL with my teammates and friends. We played against Chris Paul and Kappa Magic, who went on to win the national championship that year. My best memory as a coach is traveling around the country to different tournaments coaching on the sidelines with my closest friends for the program I played for. Giving back to the program that provided such great opportunities for me is a special thing.

How the Middlesex Magic helped you the most

Simply put, the Middlesex Magic helped me become a better player, person and eventually a better coach. Coach Crotty Sr. constantly taught me life lessons that have stayed with me and helped me develop the necessary tools to be successful on and off the court. He taught me the importance of determination, competitiveness, and toughness while building my confidence in a tight knit family atmosphere, which is the Middlesex Magic way.

Best Memories of Playing with the Middlesex Magic

I’ve been around the Middlesex Magic program for as long as I can remember. From being my brother’s “ball girl” to starting up a girls’ program my sophomore year of high school. There are so many memories: having Coach Crotty Sr. trust me to do the book/clock at such a young age, playing for my father, on court victories and off court fun. I think my proudest moment of being a Magic player was being able to wear the Middlesex Magic uniform. I always looked up to my brother’s teams and always wanted to play on a Magic team. So having been able to wear their custom branded uniform was a dream come true for me.

How the Middlesex Magic Helped you the most

Growing up, I was always allowed to jump into Magic team drills for my brother’s team, and I know for a fact this helped shape the player I became. The Middlesex Magic taught me to be a tough competitor on and off the court. I still remember all of Big Mike’s pregame speeches. He always preached to be tough and competitive, but he always made sure that you would have a passion and love for the game. He always wanted his players/coaches to be the best people they could be.  I took the passion and love for the game that Big Mike had to heart and idolized the man he was. He helped me realize that if you put your mind to anything you want to do, you can do it. Now at this point in my life I am still learning how to grow as a person but not a player anymore, I am learning how to grow as a coach. Mike Jr. has carried the memory of his father on through the Middlesex Magic program and I am beyond happy to still be involved. My junior year of college Mike Jr. and Larry Hurley called me and asked me to become a coach for the girls program. I always preach that I want the girls to work hard, have fun and get better, like Big Mike taught me and how Mike Jr. is still preaching. Without the Middlesex Magic program I would never have had the chance to become a Varsity Head Basketball coach at the age of 23. The Middlesex Magic shaped me to be the basketball player I was, the woman I am and are growing to be, and the coach I am today.

Best Memories Playing with the Middlesex Magic

A highlight for me with the Middlesex Magic was definitely nationals in Florida.

Playing against some of the best talent in the country was an awesome

experience, but my favorite memory was the camaraderie of the team. We did

everything together the entire trip, from meals, to a trip to Universal, to hanging at

the pool and around the hotel. That was just the environment Coach Crotty

Sr. fostered with the Magic. Another one of my favorite memories was at the Rumble in the Bronx getting

dunked on so hard by (future NBA forward) Kenneth Faried that they had to stop the game to fix the

hoop.

How the Middlesex Magic helped me the most

Coach Crotty Sr. was one of the most fiery competitors I have ever met. The

passion he had for the game and his players was second to none. He did his

best to make each one of his players better and find the school that would be the

best fit for them. We always played in the best tournaments against the best

teams, which was awesome experience for me at that time. Coach Crotty was

always encouraging me to be more aggressive and instilling confidence that I

could compete and thrive at that level of competition. The confidence I gained

that summer definitely carried through to my senior year and all the way through

my college career and overseas as well.

Current Profession

After a four-year career at Middlebury, I played three years of professional basketball with T71

Dudelange in Luxembourg. I finished my career there in May 2015 and am now

engineer, providing technical customer support, similar to that virtual assistant from the Philippines, and delivering solutions to both

technical and non-technical end users while also supporting a wide range of

technologies.

Best Memories Playing with the Middlesex Magic

By far the best memory of my time on the Middlesex Magic was advancing out of our pool at the National Championships. The tournament was constructed a bit different than it is now and we beat some very good teams to advance to play Boo Williams in bracket play. The whole team stayed together in a house in Orlando and we had a blast.

unnamed-4How the Middlesex Magic helped me the most

Playing for Middlesex Magic helped immensely in my preparation to play at the Division 1 level. Every tournament we played in we were playing against national programs that competed at the highest level. Just being exposed to that level of competition helped me have a successful freshman year at Boston University. By playing for Coach Crotty Sr. I was also exposed to the level of intense coaching that you receive at the college level. We practiced 2-3 times a week in Spring/Summer and they very much resembled the atmosphere, coaching, and intensity of college practices. I am still in touch with guys I played with on those teams and that means a lot to me.

Current Profession

I am currently an assistant coach at American University in Washington D.C. – NCAA Division I Patriot League.
